Jessica Harrington is one of the top dual purpose leading Trainers in Ireland

As one of Ireland’s leading three day event riders Jessica represented her country at the highest level including the Olympics. A training licence was taken out in 1989 and alongside her late husband Johnny Harrington she quickly established herself as a leading force in Irish National Hunt Racing.

Success at the Galway Festival in 1994 with Oh So Grumpy was a kick start to her now renowned reputation for handling quality jumps horses. No one will forget Moscow Flyer, a horse of a lifetime for all involved but Space Trucker’s victory in the Grand Annual in 1999 laid the way for the likes of “Moscow”, Spirit Leader, Cork All Star, Boston’s Angel, Jezki and then the three most recent heroes of Cheltenham 2017 Sizing John, Supasundae & Rock The World.

The last decade has seen Jessica firmly established as one of the leading dual purpose trainers in Ireland. Group 1 success with Pathfork in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes was a ground breaking moment in a memorable 2010 season for her and the team and they have continued to make huge strides since.

Multiple success at Group level on the Flat has followed and with a yard split almost equally between the codes it’s exciting times all year round for Jessica, her owners and dedicated staff.

The harder we all work, the luckier we get and long may it continue

When Sizing John arrived at the yard he was a two miler who had chased Douvan around the tracks of Ireland and England without much hope of mastering what was considered a one-off racehorse. However, Jessica and Robert “Puppy” Power had other ideas and in promptly going out in trip they unlocked something special. Sizing John was Jessica’s first ever runner in an Irish Gold Cup and following that in a Cheltenham Gold Cup which he decisively won on both occasions!

With Supasundae and Rock The World also winning at the 2017 Festival it really was an incredible week for all at Commonstown and Jessica is now recognised as the winning most female trainer at Cheltenham of all time.

With Cheltenham’s three most prestigious races, Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and the Gold Cup all won by horses under her tutelage it’s proof that if the ability is there in a horse, Jessica will unlock full potential each and every time.

Closer to home with Punchestown, Fairyhouse, Leopardstown and Galway always on the radar Jessica has enjoyed many other memorable days in National Hunt racing but notably in recent years her attentions to high class Flat racing have also reaped remarkable success.

Family plays a huge part of everything at Commonstown and always has when it comes to dealing with our owners and their horses.
